We humans have a very vast capacity to learn things throughout our lives. We can and we do keep learning different things at different stages of of life. Learning is a continuous process. For the later stages to be mastered we need to learn the previous skills. For example, in order to run we need to acquire maturity of our bones to be able to hold our neck, then we gradually start turning to progress through many stages from sitting, crawling, trying to stand, take baby steps, walk with support so progress happens only when or body is ready.
Thus gradually we start walking and then only the task of running occurs. You cannot skip learn. Same is with other kinds of learning.
Role of Parents: Parents are the role models for their children. They play the most important role in the overall development of their child. When a child attempts on a task and when he/she get an immediate response from their parents they feel motivated. For instance, if a child attempts to make a drawing and shows her parent, she is waiting for some approval. When her mother/father praises for the attempt or gives a kiss as a positive gesture the child feels approved. She will be encouraged to try out new things every time and she will be a confidant person later.
The kind of reactions and responses children get from their parents determines a lot of things in their later lives. It influences the child’s confidence and willingness to learn new things. For instance, if the child’ attempts on many smaller tasks are ignored or rejected continuously by parents and caregivers, the child may give up learning and he/she may find it difficult to sustain in school. Their tendency to give up becomes common.
Studies have shown that they will start taking school as something that is not required. Even the simplest of the task becomes difficult for them. Parents ho do not show any interest in their child’ achievements raise children who are often unsuccessful and in a long run they can give up studying.
Know Your Child’s Pace:
It is very much evident that as a parent we are eager to see our child succeeding in their tasks. Parents try to give the best possible opportunities to their children. And to accomplish this they may also enrol the child to the best of the course in which the child may not be interested.
It is very important, as a parent you should know the learning pace of your child. It could be demotivating for the child, who struggles a lot if he/she is continuously bombarded with tasks that are beyond their capacities and if the parent is blaming the child for his/her failures.
It is important to observe the child in various settings, how he/she is performing. If we overstimulate the child her normal development and everyday performance could get affected, and may also lea to emotional unrest. And if you suspect such a thing you should talk to the child with open mind. For healthy learning to happen, its important that we make the atmosphere non biased and child centric.
Always talk to your child, and listen to their needs from them, their likes and preferences.
Only if the learning experience is made easy and smooth, the child will feel confident. It is also very important to give them time to learn and master new skills at their pace. Only then we will be able to give them a better, fruitful and happy future.
